LAB-AU

Els I. R. L. Vermang was from Feb 2003 until Feb 2023 part of the artist trio LAb[au].

According to the technological progress of the past 50 years, LAb(au) examines the transformation of art in n-dimensional (visual, sonic, spatial,..) form. It is chiefly known for its large-scale installations using interactive and reactive systems.

Her work with LAb[au] was exhibited at some of the world’s most reputated art institutions, such as Kunsthal (Action Reaction - Rotterdam, 2018), Musee d’Art Contemporain (Physicality - Montreal, 2015), MOMA (Artist Novelist - New York, 2014), Biennale di Venezia (Noise - Venice, 2013), Seoul Museum of Art (Artificial garden - Seoul, 2013),... and many more. It is being sold at international art fairs among which SP Arte (DAN, severel times), FIAC (Denise Rene, 2014) and Art Basel (Denise Rene, 2015). With LAb[au] she realized several permanent artworks for public space.

Auto-poetic installation transposing the principle of the “on (yes) / off (no)” switch into binary data to randomly generate letters, words and sentences.

Auto-poetic installation constituted by two circular displays. The lower ring displays the process - the generation of random letters, while the upper one displays and overwrites the result - the creation of words by combinatorial logic.

Kinetic light artwork constituted of an elevated steal frame supporting rotating squared tiles. The artwork invites the spectators to enter in a space under this artificial sky to contemplate patterns of light and motion.

Binary Waves

2006

Kinetic light artwork measuring the electromagnetic and traffic flows and transposing them into luminous, kinetic and sonic behaviour, transmit by 40 panels of 3 meter high and 60 cm wide turning around their vertical axis rendering visible the invisible flows of the city.
